New College of Florida (NCF), the Honors College of the State University System of Florida, seeks a Vice President for Advancement & Executive Director of the New College Foundation. The Vice President is the senior leader for all fundraising staff and activities for the College. The Vice President plays a pivotal role in creating, planning and implementing the fundraising initiatives and programs that attract and steward the financial resources required to fulfill the institution’s mission. This leader articulates the College’s case for philanthropic support, builds relationships, leverages networks, cultivates opportunities and seeks significant gifts.

This opportunity for fund raising and alumnae/i leadership comes at an exciting juncture in the College’s history. An environment of justifiable anticipation, high energy and new direction awaits the new Vice President as the result of President Donal O’Shea’s leadership and strategic vision. The Vice President joins President O’Shea and the senior leadership team to develop and support strategic initiatives, build the donor base and more effectively connect New College to its distinguished alumnae/i and to the Sarasota community to enhance the College’s fundraising capabilities.

New College seeks a seasoned development professional, ideally from an academic institution, public or private, who has played a leadership role in a proven advancement program. Campaign experience is an essential complement to an understanding of how to build a base of donor loyalty from institutional friends, as well as from an alumnae/i base. S/he will have the capacity to work imaginatively and collaboratively with the College’s academic, administrative, and trustee leadership, as well as with the Foundation Board of Directors and volunteer leadership. A bachelor’s degree is essential; an advanced degree is preferred.

NCF is rated highly by U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, Kiplinger, and Fiske as one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the nation and as a “best buy.” Newsweek claims that NCF is the 8th most “Free-Spirited” college in the nation, thus recognizing the centrality of students, as active learners, to the College’s founding principles, which themselves were modeled after New College, Oxford University. NCF proudly stands among the nation’s leading institutions for students awarded Fulbright grants on a per capita basis (more than 50 in the last ten years) and produces impressive numbers of U.S. Department of State Critical Language, Goldwater, Gilman, Udall, and NSF graduate research and NSF-REU grant recipients. The Florida Legislature has recognized New College as a “Center of Excellence.”

The 118.6-acre NCF campus sits on the shore of Sarasota Bay on the Gulf of Mexico and consists of fifty-five buildings, the newest of which, Academic Center (2011), is LEED certified. Adorned by sculptures, stunning landscaping, and a rebuilt historic seawall, the campus features the Charles Ringling mansion and the Hester Ringling Sanford mansion at its heart and is part of the Ringling-Caples Historic District, which includes the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. The College’s Caples Fine Arts campus was constructed in 1992. Since 2000, the College has replaced all of its science facilities and added specialized labs for nanocomposite materials (2008) and plant genome research (2009). The Marine Biology Research Education Center (2001) uses seawater piped directly from Sarasota Bay. The Public Archeology Lab was built in 2010, and five new residence halls opened in 2007. The College intends to add a Center for International and Area Studies in the near future.

Consideration of nominees and candidates will begin on January 2 and continue until the position is filled. The full leadership profile may be accessed at www.ncf.edu/employment [3]. Please send materials in support of candidacy, electronically, to VPAdvancement@ncf.edu [4].
