The Office of Information Technology at West Virginia University is seeking a UNIX Systems Administrator (Professional Technologist 2). This position will install, configure and support UNIX and Linux based operating systems including patches, fixes, compilers and utilities. Additional responsibilities include: monitoring and responding to trouble tickets assigned to the UNIX systems group; scanning UNIX hosts for known security vulnerabilities and taking appropriate actions to remediate risks such as patching or altering application/host settings; investigating, analyzing and resolving problems that result in system failures and performance issues; developing, documenting and implementing internal procedures for UNIX administration needs; performing backup and restore of UNIX operating system data using mksysb and Tivoli storage manager for the UNIX system group.
A Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from a four year college or university in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Applicants should have 2-3 years of UNIX systems administration or equivalent experience.
Additional required skills include: proficient in DHCP, LDAP, DNS, RAID file-systems, FTP, TCPIP, EXT3, ZFS and JFS2 filesystems; a solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; ability to review host security parameters and ensure compliance with security policies; ability to provide end user support for the specific operating systems in use at the site; ability to develop, implement, and maintain Server Recovery procedures; proficient with specific applications in use at the site (for example, Tivoli Storage Manager, Apache, MYSQL, Nagios); ability to perform server backup and recovery using AIX mksysbs and Tivoli Storage Manager; capability to perform intermediate systems administration functions on IBM pSeries, Sun SPARC, and Apple hardware platforms/architectures; proficient in server virtualization technologies to include IBM logical partition, Oracle Solaris Containers (Zones), Oracle Virtual Machine for SPARC (LDOMS), Oracle Virtual Machine and VMware; proficient in storage virtualization technologies to include IBM Enterprise Storage Subsystem and SAN Volume Controller; ability to perform Storage Area Network (SAN) Administration.
