Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruct studio classes in Foundation. Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive studio art program and curriculum. Maintain creative activity in academic area or emphasis. Participate in faculty academic activities related to the educational and in-service programs. Assignments may include evening and/or weekend courses.

Experience Required:
1. Minimum of two (2) years full-time (or part-time equivalent) recent and successful experience teaching Two-Dimensional Design at the post-secondary level.
2. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Master’s degree or higher in fine arts*, art, or art history from an accredited college or university; OR
2. Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s degree in humanities from an accredited college or university; OR
3. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR
4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above (Applicants applying on the basis of equivalency must submit the Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination form in addition to all other required materials).

*Note: “Master’s in Fine Arts” as used here refers to any Master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art, also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based upon specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing, or other non-plastic arts.

Desired Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of professional expertise on the basis of:
1. Established record of professional expertise in design.
2. Experience teaching beginning and advanced levels of Design.
3. Established record of art exhibitions.
4. Knowledge and practice of the principles, components, and terminology of Two-Dimensional Design via relational, problem solving, and visual vocabulary.
5. Knowledge of Color Theory.
6. Knowledge and mastery of contemporary practices, including digital learning; experience with computer-aided Two-Dimensional Design and familiarity with Two-Dimensional Design software.
