A member of the senior management team within University Facilities, this individual will be a well-rounded professional capable of addressing a wide range of engineering issues within the University. They will coordinate closely with Directors in several departments, lending engineering expertise when/where required. Their efforts will assure efficient, high-quality level of service to all campus customers.
•Analyze operational problems with University equipment and systems such as steam and chilled water production and distribution, power and water distribution and sanitary facilities. Equipment and systems work will also cover MEP aspects of individual buildings. Prescribe corrective action as appropriate. Cooperate with Director, Maintenance & Operations on implementation and assure satisfactory outcome through quality control analysis.
•Monitor campus energy consumption and identify opportunities for improved energy efficiency. Perform quantitative analysis of conservation options and recommend actions as appropriate. Monitor outcomes for appropriate performance.
•Participate in the design, planning, evaluation, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of major capital projects. Analyze and address infrastructural issues associated with project plans.
•Support project management activities through construction document review and through periodic inspection of project progress and assure conformance with the established specifications and standards. Assume a leading role in project commissioning.
•Operate in a productive peer-relationship with University Facilities Department Heads. Support the Executive Director and cooperate in the prioritization of projects and the most effective allocation of available time and resources. Communicate complex issues to all levels within and outside the University in a readily understandable manner.
Qualifications
•At least 5 years’ experience performing and managing engineering tasks in a complex institutional setting or in a consulting/design role serving institutional clients.
•Experience with related software systems.
•Collegial demeanor and excellent problem solving and communications skills.
•Registration in Virginia as a professional Mechanical Engineer or ability to obtain registration within twelve months. Other Professional Engineers may qualify with specifically related experience.
•Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred.
