The College is recruiting for a Phonathon and Stewardship Programs Manager. This position builds relationships with Mills College alumnae and donors by managing the Telephone Outreach Program (a key tool for soliciting annual fund donations) as well as efforts to steward donors and ensure appropriate use of their contributions. The Phonathon and Stewardship Programs Manager will join the Advancement Communications and Outreach team in Mills’ Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA).
• Under direction of the Annual Giving Outreach Officer, manage Telephone Outreach Program (TOP): hire, train, and supervise TOP student callers and shift leaders; write scripts for callers with input from supervisor; maintain calling calendar and monitor progress through prospect populations; and maintain call center hardware, supplies, and appearance.
• Serve as primary user of TOP’s SmartCall telefundraising software system.
• Supervise an additional student worker in producing TOP thank-you letters and pledge reminders.
• Help plan and carry out an expansion of TOP’s purpose from raising annual funds to supporting diverse advancement programs.
• Working closely with the Associate Director of Development Communications, develop and implement programs to recognize and thank diverse categories and levels of donors: prepare yearly reports for donors of restricted and/or endowed funds; engage students, faculty, and others in thanking donors; and help plan events and produce communications for special giving circles.
• Develop and maintain an inventory of campus naming opportunities and named spaces.
• Maintain a stewardship calendar to schedule all reporting to donors.
• Assist with the maintenance of files and database records on endowed scholarships, endowed chairs, and other endowed funds.
• Participate in the creation of efficient reports, acknowledgements, and stewardship data-entry procedures.
• Coordinate stewardship of scholarship/fellowship awards with the Financial Aid Office and other relevant departments.
• Perform related duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least two years of combined fundraising and stewardship experience, including experience with coordinating a telemarketing program and with retrieving data from a large relational database; these requirements may be fulfilled in part with experience gained as a volunteer or while a student.
• The concepts, principles, ethics, and practices of fundraising, donor relations, and gift stewardship.
• Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Access.
• Large relational fundraising databases and other information technologies required to fulfill duties assigned.
• The culture of and issues faced by private liberal-arts colleges.
• Work evenings and weekends during fall and spring semesters.
• Teach calling techniques to student workers, manage students effectively, and inspire them in their work.
• Identify key fundraising and stewardship messages and express them clearly and concisely in writing and speaking; communicate effectively during phone and in-person interactions.
• Creatively solve problems and execute work thoroughly and meticulously.
• Balance multiple projects effectively under tight deadlines, and to anticipate and react with flexibility to changes in deadlines and priorities.
• Work constructively and cooperatively with other members of the Office of Institutional Advancement.
• Commit to the mission of Mills College and participate in and promote events and programs at Mills College.
• Exhibit strong customer service orientation toward all College constituencies and members of the public, particularly donors, as well as kindness, patience, and listening skills.
• Take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

SALARY: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403b retirement plan, 10 days of vacation the first year plus 13 paid holidays and 12 sick days annually. Staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is available after an introductory period.
