Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The STS program is part of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and draws its tenure-line faculty from multiple departments. Information on the program is available at http://ids.chass.ncsu.edu/sts/ [5] and http://tinyurl.com/be6vb8s [6].

The University’s location in the state capital, and in the Research Triangle area with its multiple universities and research centers, provides a vibrant setting for STS research, outreach, and engagement.

Essential Job Duties:

North Carolina State University seeks an established scholar to provide leadership for its interdisciplinary program in Science, Technology & Society (STS). The STS program provides crucial links among the University’s strengths in humanities, social science, science, technology, and engineering fields. The successful candidate will assume the directorship of the program and contribute to developing these connections further and integrating them more fully into the University’s identity. Duties will include scholarship, teaching, and program administration, divided between the participating department and the STS program.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Candidates should demonstrate an established research program directly relevant to the interdisciplinary STS field and appropriate for a tenured position in one of the participating departments: Communication, English, History, Philosophy & Religious Studies, Sociology & Anthropology, and Political Science/Public & International Affairs. A commitment to interdisciplinary research, pedagogy, and program development is essential.
