Job Title: Assistant Professor
Job ID: 6747
Department: Mathematics
Location: Queens College

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Joen referred to as "the jewel of the CUNY system," Queens College is a place of contrasts: an urban school in a suburban setting, where a large and diverse student body receives personalized attention.  With a mission to prepare students to become leading citizens of an increasingly global society, we offer a rigorous education in the liberal arts and sciences under the guidance of a faculty dedicated to both teaching and research.  Our liberal arts, science, and pre-professional programs earn us high rankings in prestigious college guides such as The Princeton Review America's Best Value Colleges.  Our students graduate with the ability to think critically, address complex problems, explore various cultures, use modern technologies and information resources, and have won prominence in nearly every field.

The duties of this position include teaching undergraduate and masters level courses in mathematics and statistics; establishing a record of research and scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, grant applications and funded research; collaborating with other members of the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences; serving on departmental and college-wide committees; and advising students.  This position is part of the interdisciplinary initiative in Neuroscience in the Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.  See http://www.qc.cuny.edu/Academics/Degrees/DMNS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics by September 1, 2013 and to have broad training and/or research experience in statistical theory and methods.  They must demonstrate a commitment to teaching undergraduates and show significant evidence of scholarly promise.

A commitment to teaching a diverse student body is expected.  Preference will be given to candidates who have an active research program in probability/statistics and are eager to consult with members of other departments, as needed.  Applicants in fields other than statistics will not be considered.

COMPENSATION

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
