Overview:
Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) is fully accredited by the AVMA and comprises seven semesters of integrated training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and an additional year of clinical training at one of 23 affiliated veterinary medical schools in the United States. The goal of the School is to provide students with a solid and unique preparatory training experience that would allow them to successfully complete their clinical year and graduate as exceptional veterinarians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The clinical pathology/anatomic pathology internship position is a 12-month advanced training position appointed at the instructor level, and comparable to a first year resident in pathology or clinical pathology beginning July 1, 2013. This position provides a unique opportunity for training in both clinical pathology and anatomic pathology. Interns are expected to spend the majority of their time interacting with veterinary students, primarily in the laboratory setting, and performing diagnostics under the supervision of ACVP Board-Certified clinical and anatomic pathologists.
The objectives of the internship are partial preparation for ACVP Board Certification and development of skills in teaching and diagnostics in clinical and anatomic pathology. The intern will have ample learning opportunities in subspecialty areas of veterinary clinical pathology and anatomic pathology, including cytolopathology, hemopathology, histopathology, and necropsy. Cytolopathology, hemopathology, histopathology, and necropsy reports will be written in conjunction with the faculty clinical pathologist or anatomic pathologist on duty. The intern will also have opportunities to develop skills related to operating automated laboratory equipment and understanding quality control procedures. Elective opportunities for areas of special interest to trainee are available.
Opportunities are available to attend Small Animal Medicine Rounds, Journal clubs, and to spend up to 20% of their time collaborating on a research project. The intern will be expected to develop interactive teaching cases for clinical and anatomic pathology, to submit one manuscript suitable for publication, and to keep designated office hours.
The intern will work under the guidance of 3 ACVP Board-Certified pathologists as well as 3 Board-eligible pathologists. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Head of Section as needed.

Qualifications:
- DVM or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere
- A strong desire for advanced clinical pathology and/ or anatomic pathology training, leading to ACVP-Board certification
Salary Range: $40,000 USD annual salary plus medical and evacuation insurance.
