Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English Composition. Atlanta Metropolitan College currently serves over 3000 commuting students on its beautifully landscaped campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

This ten-month, tenure track faculty position reports to the Dean of the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts. Teaching assignments typically include English writing/composition courses taught at the freshman and sophomore level, although other courses including Developmental English, 19th Century and Early American Literature may be assigned. The individual hired will start in Fall 2013. In addition to teaching, faculty responsibilities include student advisement, professional/scholarly activity, and institutional service on division and college committees. Individual will be expected to develop a strong program of scholarship. Experience in teaching British literature surveys is preferred.

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in English or closely related field from an accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours (thirty-quarter hours) in English Composition. Applicants must have a history of effective teaching at the collegiate level and possess knowledge of educational technologies (e.g., Web-based and/or Web-enhanced instruction).

Preferred candidates will have a strong interest in instructional practice, teaching experience in secondary, post-secondary and/or adult settings. Additionally, preference will be given to a candidate who has sub-specialties in one or more of the following areas: creative writing, multimodal literacies, new media, and/or humanities. The successful candidate should possess the ability and desire to provide quality instruction to students with diverse backgrounds while effectively collaborating and cooperating with other members of the faculty, staff, and administration.

The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the budgetary parameters of the college and of the University System of Georgia.
