Effective September 1, 2012 the Department of Information Management and Technology at the Hospital for Sick Children, is recruiting for the Chief Medical Information Officer position. The successful candidate is a driven, self-motivated individual who will champion the clinical IT initiatives and the deployment of health IT solutions that could transform the delivery of care. The CMIO will advise the VP IMT & CIO as well as other members of the Sick Kids Executive Team on health informatics and eHealth decisions, and explain any constraints and limitations of such solutions as well as their impact to the clinical processes. An individual who who uses critical thinking, analytical approaches, and presentation and communication skills to clearly articulate the benefits of the clinical IT systems and solutions. Especially innovative solutions and approaches, that could transform the delivery of care for better outcomes, influence outcomes of discussions at regional and provincial tables to ensure paediatric requirements are accounted for in development of eHealth solutions and that the eHealth paediatric platform is reflective of the patient care needs. The individual achieves success through establishing relationships cross functionally within the IMT portfolio and clinical areas, serving as a liaison between the medical staff, IMT staff and SickKids senior leadership by developing a deep understanding of clinical requirements and translating them into functional and technical requirements. Works closely with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the service delivery model for clinical IT systems and health IT technologies is appropriate for implementation, ongoing support and ongoing enhancement phases of the technology life cycle. The individual will participate in the review, development and implementation of the IMT Strategic Plans, the development of yearly tactical plans, vendor selection, contract negotiations, product development and implementation that will enable the organization to achieve its vision and mission in alignment with the organization's values. The successful candidate should possess an advanced degree in medical informatics or experience in clinical informatics as well as proven experience in leading an EMR deployment. Knowledge of Allscripts, GE, SIS and Sunquest solutions is an advantage. The individual must have a good grasp of clinical work flow in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and in clinical information systems and outcomes measurement with a strong understanding of the role of hospital information systems and health IT in promoting quality, patient safety, performance improvement and patient and user satisfaction. The successful candidate could be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. All candidates must be a licensed physician or eligible for by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with minimum 5 years experience or comparable qualifications.
