Under the direction of the AVP for Research Development and Innovation, commercialize the universitys intellectual property assets through identification, patenting, licensing, and marketing.
Internal development of Intellectual Property commercialization
1.Develop research based relationships with faculty and student inventors, department chairs, deans and industry executives.
2.Routinely engage faculty to pursue invention disclosures, and review of lab notebooks for compliance with intellectual property protection standards.
3.Develop, present and, or coordinate internal workshops and, or lectures on intellectual property and commercialization.
4.Assure compliance with applicable federal laws and guidelines.
Analytical evaluation of University intellectual property
1.Perform prompt and competent analyses of invention disclosures by ERAU faculty, staff and students to include their market potential and commercial potential through licensing or optioning of intellectual property rights. Successfully manage multi party and or multi technology commercial projects and support the creation of ventures and or of start up companies.
2.Work with faculty, staff, students and industry partners to evaluate inventions for intellectual property protection and freedom to operate, participate in patenting discussions and decisions, assist ERAU Corporate Attorney in the preparation, filing and prosecution of US and international patent applications to assure commercial viability.
Outreach
1.From time to time, be a resource to ERAU startups related to intellectual property management strategy where there is no overlap with ERAU interests.
Visit each laboratory at least semi annually. Double invention disclosures annually and improve quality.
Develop and maintain a technology commercialization database.
Develop patenting, licensing and commercialization strategies for inventions retained by the university.
Draft and negotiate license agreements and other related contracts, such as option agreements and stock purchase agreements, etc., generating at least 10 fold increase in direct or indirect revenue within three years.
Prepare non confidential disclosures and descriptions of intellectual property and related information for potential licensees and commercial development partners.
Evaluate software and copyright disclosures.
Identify and routinely review existing and new research contracts for milestone and calendar events.
Assist in filing appropriate copyright registrations.
As designated, serve the Universitys interests through representation in select external organizations or corporations.
