Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

Campus Enterprises is NC State’s lead division of retail and hospitality organizations — University Dining, NC State Bookstores, University Trademark Licensing, the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, campus student centers operations (Witherspoon, Thompson, Price and Talley), and the AllCampus Card Office. Each unit shares a common goal: deliver quality and efficient services worth dedicated financial support for student activity and scholarships.

To satisfy the mission of a self-supporting, non-profit institutional bookstore as required by University administration and University trustees, by providing all required academic needs such as textbooks, reference and trade books, essential student related computer equipment, supplies, emblematic items and various convenience items as prescribed by state law. Additionally, it is required by the University trustees that the store pay for inventory and capital improvements out of receipts, and that residual funds be directed to the General Scholarship Fund on an annual basis.

Essential Job Duties:

The Assistant Director of the Textbook Division functions as a member of the senior management team with budgetary, financial, operational and administrative accountability for the Textbook Division. The position is primarily responsible for managing and supervising the acquisition of all textbooks and course materials for both required and optional use in classes at NC State University; as well as general trade books. This position functions as a point of contact and develops strong working relationships with Academic Deans and faculty members, ensuring academic course material availability for over 34,000 North Carolina State University students.

Departmental Required Skills:

Strong supervisory skills and experience.
Complete understanding of budget projection for sales, gross profit, inventory and payroll is required.
Knowledge and use of computerized inventory system is necessary; additional computer experience should at least include MS Office suite.
Must have the ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and prioritize duties.
Must possess a strong sense of urgency.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required with faculty, staff, students, publishers and wholesale operations.
Must possess the ability to interact professionally with faculty, university departments, and publishers for textbook and course material needs and problem resolution.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Experience with Sequoia retail systems including textbook partner module. Minimum of 5 years experience in a large enrollment institutional college bookstore including at least three years as a textbook buyer.
Ability to research, evaluate and implement emerging technologies that advance and improve the service of the bookstore to the campus community.
