Assistant Professor of Science Education, Department of Education. Otterbein University, a comprehensive and innovative liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus, Ohio area, invites immediate applications for an assistant professor position in Science Education with the appointment beginning in the academic year 2013-2014.

This is a tenure-track position with commensurate expectations for teaching, scholarship and service. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. required; minimum three years’ PK-12 teaching experience; college teaching in science methods preferred. Teaching experience in baccalaureate and graduate programs, teaching experience in science methods, demonstrated record of scholarship, experience in curriculum development and evaluation, willingness to teach or team-teach courses in science and integrative studies, willingness to seek graduate faculty status, and experience in online and/or blended education preferred. NCATE experience is of interest. Responsibilities include: Teaching diverse, talented students in undergraduate and graduate level courses in science pedagogy for undergraduate Education Majors, introductory courses in Biology and Physical Science, and graduate courses in science pedagogy for mid-career teachers. Additional responsibilities include supervising student teachers, advising majors in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics who are seeking teaching licenses, coordinating the Education Department’s science course offerings with courses in Arts and Sciences, and gathering data on science education student learning outcomes for accreditation purposes. This position also offers opportunities to teach or team teach courses in integrated liberal studies, to develop grants in teacher professional development in the sciences, and to develop partnerships with area school systems to enhance K-12 science education. Faculty are expected to be actively involved in scholarship, department committee work, and professional service.
