Position Summary

Perform various specimen collection processing techniques, which include venipuncture, fingersticks, bleeding times, throat cultures, urine and stool collections, paternity testing, EKGs and necessary instrument and computer applications.

Duties

Performs adult and pediatric venipuncture.  Regarding all specimen collection:  properly identifies patient prior to specimen collection according to procedures; ensures accuracy of all requisition and ensures all specimens are labeled properly.  Performs all duties with minimal errors according to department accuracy standards.  Is trained in all of the following areas and will provide coverage when needed: outpatient laboratory, off-site collection stations, nursing homes, home draws, on-call, data clerk.  Is able to use all appropriate instrumentation and computer applications accurately; duties associated with the collection, processing, registration, logging and batching of specimens.  May be responsible for the phlebotomy training of other Hospital personnel.  Is responsible for the work area; other duties and projects as assigned. 

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or equivalent; ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication; phlebotomy experience required; customer service experience preferred; experience in homedraws, nursing homes, and/or off-site collection preferred.  Position requires having reliable transportation on a daily basis.
