Edison State College, a unit of the Florida College System, seeks an accomplished academic administrator to serve as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. The Dean provides strategic vision, leadership, and direction for the School of Arts and Sciences. The review of applications begins immediately.
The Dean of the School of Arts and Science holds a highly responsible administrative-level position that oversees and administers the School and its respective academic programs college-wide. The Dean provides leadership and strategic direction to promote continuous improvement and programmatic growth consistent with the mission of the college.
In directing the School of Arts and Sciences, the Dean:
-- Provides leadership and direction to associate deans, directors, coordinators, faculty, and staff in the development and delivery of instruction
-- Promotes a culture that results in effective communication and the open exchange of ideas among faculty, staff, and administration
-- Provides opportunities for faculty participation in decision-making in accordance with the college’s shared-governance model
-- Collaborates with appropriate college administrators to develop, evaluate, and deliver college credit courses effectively and efficiently college-wide to students, utilizing all educational delivery methods
-- Is responsible for ensuring the systematic completion of program reviews, monitors trends in education, and recommends programmatic enhancements and/or deletions to maintain a student-centered learning environment
-- Works with campus presidents and others to determine local workforce trends and employer needs
-- Oversees the development and execution of state approved articulation agreements with educational and industrial stakeholders
-- Monitors consistent and timely program updates to reflect consistency with state curriculum frameworks and regulations
-- Ensures the accuracy of programmatic information in the class schedule, college catalog, website, and promotional materials
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will be a proven leader and academic innovator capable of enriching the profile of the School of Arts and Sciences and the College. A terminal degree earned from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in a discipline appropriate to the School is required.
Additionally, the qualified candidate must have the appropriate combination of education, training, and experience that includes, but is not limited to, knowledge and experience in program and curriculum development, program review and enhancement, continuous quality improvement processes, budget management, previous teaching experience in higher education, and a knowledge of the accreditation process for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The Dean will be an excellent communicator with a demonstrated passion for academia and the ability to cultivate a collaborative atmosphere within a large, vibrant division within the College. This academic and administrative leader will have utmost integrity, strategic vision, a thoughtful and deliberative approach, and a strong commitment to high academic standards and to the enhancement of teaching and learning.
Other requirements include:
-- Successful experience in developing academic curricula and student-centered, outcome-focused programs in arts and sciences
-- Demonstrated record of responsible higher education administrative experience, preferably in a community or state college
-- Full-time teaching experience in higher education
-- Personal and educational philosophy compatible with the mission, goals and objectives of Edison State College
