The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position as an assistant professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies.

This position is located on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Miss., and begins August 2013.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in child development and/or family studies; advising and mentoring undergraduate students; conducting, presenting and publishing scholarly research; securing external funding; and providing service to the department, university and community.

Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum
•Earned doctorate in child and family studies, child development or a related field
•Ability to effectively engage in teaching, publishing research and securing external funding

ABD is considered.

Preferred
•Knowledge of or experience with AAFCS accreditation standards
•Eligible for certification as a family life educator (CFLE) through NCFR
•Successful record of publishing research and/or obtaining external funding

Starting Date: August 2013

Location:
The position is based at the Gulf Park campus.

Located within the College of Education and Psychology, the Department of Child and Family Studies offers undergraduate specializations in family relations and child development (including teacher preparation for pre-K-K) on both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses. The department also offers a Master of Science degree in marriage and family therapy and a Master of Science degree in child and family studies. The Department of Child and Family Studies has two auxiliary units, the Center for Child Development and the University Clinic for Family Therapy.
