General Summary of Position: Reposting:

  • Assist in managing, planning and leading the financial, personnel, operational, and outreach activities of the Facilities Management Operations & Services Department encompassing custodial services in all academic and administrative buildings on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus.
  • Provide input into Custodial Services Department budget. Supervises the testing of new materials, equipment and procedures.
  • Develops and administers a process and program network to identify and report any maintenance deficiencies to the Director. Performs cost analysis, monitors supply requests to ensure best practices, policies and resources needed to provide a clean environment in and around all university buildings.
  • Supervises the custodial services campus wide, including snow removal operations and special event activities as required.
  • Plans and assigns work to custodial employees and makes regular building inspections to insure compliance with acceptable standards
  • Works with union officials to maintain a harmonious relationship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or higher in Business Administration or Management
  • OR- Any degree; PLUS two years of service as a supervisor in the field of custodial services
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in the field of custodial or facilities services in an institutional setting.
  • Must be willing to work periodic nights and weekends including during campus weather and facility related emergencies and unique events.
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in budget planning and personnel supervision in a large organization.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred and demonstrated capabilities dealing with human relation issues
  • Demonstrated experience in budget planning and personnel supervision in a large organization.
  • Experience working with industry staffing standards
  • Experience working at Higher Education Institution
  • Experience cleaning research laboratories
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with multi-tasking
