- Assists undergraduate students and parents in determining the affordability of obtaining education through financial aid, loans and payment options. Performs the financial award process, needs analysis, counseling, financial aid follow-up, and aid reporting.
Required Education
- BA degree in related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of general business experience, preferably in related field or a field that is highly regulated.
Primary Duties
- Reviews federal needs analysis documents for accuracy and follows up for income documentation for federal verification.
- Awards and revises financial aid for undergraduate students within federal, state and institutional guidelines. Package students based on three separate financial aid models.
- Coordinates with various academic/athletic departments to insure timely awarding of departmental scholarships.
- Works with the Athletics’ Compliance Administrator to update/correct team budgets to make sure each team is compliant with NCAA regulations and has not been awarded more than the specified equivalencies (scholarships) and that each coach has not awarded more scholarship dollars then they have in their budget.
- Manually packages all counter athletes (receiving an athletic scholarship) within federal, state, institutional, and NCAA guidelines.
- Approves and signs all Grant-In-Aid letters that are sent to prospective student-athletes to accept the athletic financial aid offered to them by signing and returning to APU.
- Interacts with athletic coaches and other staff members to maintain institutional control.
- Assigns Student Athlete service indicators for both counter and non-counter athletes so that multiple APU departments can easily identify student athletes and ensure that APU is compliant with NCAA regulations.
- Accesses and consults resources on financial aid issues and polices through attending internal and external training sessions. Utilizes the Federal Student Financial Aid Handbook, the Common Manual, the Cal Grant Manual and other resources to insure accuracy and compliance. Attend national and regional conferences.
- Monitors satisfactory academic progress as it relates to financial aid eligibility.
- Calculates return of Title IV funds in compliance with federal regulations.
- Understands basic federal tax law to evaluate the accuracy of FAFSA data entry and completes verifications for families that are selected based on the 30% rule.
- Communicate closely with the student accounts specialists for clarity and understanding with a student’s award package and to analyze special financial needs of individual students.
- Processes data files between APU and the Department of Education. This includes checklists and loan letter processing, Pell processing, Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) processing, loan checklist updates and loan cancellations. Supports the Data Administrator in their absence.
- Considers unique individual student and parent financial circumstances in the awarding of financial aid.
- Counsels students and parents about the financial process and professional judgment issues. Meet regularly with the Professional Judgment Committee to insure consistency and accuracy in considering special circumstances.
- Assists in the maintenance and development of the financial aid policy and procedure manual.
- Uses the computer with Windows interface and Microsoft products to complete tasks, including Word, Outlook electronic mail, Excel, Singularity, COD, ELM-Select, IFAP, NSLDS, PeopleSoft, FAA Access, Webgrants and various other financial aid websites.
- Tracks and communicates with students on the timely completion of their financial aid.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office products, including Word.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
- Good command of the English language with good organizational skills and attention to details.
