Since its founding in 1913, the School of Management (SMG) at Boston University has been a leader in innovative management education. Today, more than 2,000 undergraduates and 1,200 MBA and DBA candidates constitute its active, achievement-driven student body. In recent years, the profile of entering students has steadily risen as has overall satisfaction of graduates, moving the School up in the rankings of Top 50 business schools in the nation. The Position The Assistant Dean for Career Services, reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, develops and implements the management strategy for the BU School of Management, Feld Career Center serving both graduate and undergraduate students. Working collaboratively with the Graduate Programs, Graduate Admissions Offices, the Alumni and Development Office, faculty, other deans, and staff, the Assistant Dean is responsible for expanding and nurturing productive relationships with corporate representatives and other hiring organizations to intentionally market the School, promote the talents of SMG students, and generate internship and employment opportunities in line with the capabilities and aspirations of degree candidates. In addition to broad management and active engagement in recruitment services, the Assistant Dean will oversee the career counseling and job search preparation of students, ensuring a coordinated approach to, and rigorous assessment of, this facet of the departments mission. The Assistant Dean is a member of the SMG management team; serves as a key ambassador for the School interacting with professional associations, external constituents, and the media; and is responsible for data collection, analysis, and outcomes reporting. The Assistant Dean supervises a staff of 19, including five direct reports, and manages a budget of approximately $1.1 million.
Requires: Masters Degree (MBA preferred) with seven years of progressive experience in project management, process development, and implementation. A demonstrated ability to develop and manage client relationships, excellent public relations, marketing, and communication skills (written and oral), ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external constituents and an enthusiasm for promoting the career development and success of students Dean. Additional capabilities sought in an ideal candidate include a collaborative management style, commitment to continuous improvement, facility with current technology including use of web portals, specialized databases, and analytical tools, and familiarity with a wide range of career fields of interest to students pursing BSBA, MBA, MS, and PhD business and finance degrees.
