Assistant Professor in Visual Disabilities

The School of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Florida State University invites applications from candidates for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in Visual Disabilities Education. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include engaging in a well-defined scholarship agenda; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses on the education of teachers of students with visual impairments; advising students, working with faculty and staff to advertise and maintain the program; serving on committees at department, college, and university levels; and working collaboratively on projects with colleagues from the Colleges of Education and those in K-12 settings. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research focusing on the preparation of teachers of students with visual impairments, initiate new research projects, and apply for external funding to support new projects. Candidates must have a commitment to teacher education, excellence in teaching, potential for excellence in scholarly activity, and strong support for high quality services to students with visual impairments.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include: Earned doctorate in Special Education (or related field), with an emphasis on the education of students with visual impairments, at least 3 years of successful work with students with visual impairments, and evidence of the potential for high quality scholarship (recent publications in peer reviewed journals, recent presentations at national or international conferences, recent successful work on an externally funded grant).
Strongly preferred: Expertise in orientation and mobility or working with children whose multiple disabilities include visual impairment.

This is a nine-month, tenure earning position at the assistant professor rank, with possible summer employment. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2013 (Fall 2013 Semester.) Salary is negotiable.
