Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: January 7, 2013

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The director of WQPT Public Television oversees operation of the public television station WQPT, affiliated with Western Illinois University – Quad Cities. The director develops strategic plan, represents WQPT to administrative and legislative agencies, private individuals, organizations, and businesses to encourage broad public interest, goodwill, and develops financial support. The director is responsible for daily management of WQPT, contract negotiation, and government agency compliance. The director reports to the Vice President for Quad Cities and Planning, and maintains collaborative relationships with the Broadcasting department and other university departments and offices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, knowledge of all aspects of operating a television facility. Must have knowledge of and experience with: 1) FCC regulations and demonstrated ability to interpret Federal, State, and local agency rules that affect broadcasting, 2) Identifying community resources and organizations to assist with forming partnerships to further the station’s mission, 3) PBS and Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB)-related restrictions and guidelines concerning fundraising for public broadcast stations. Leadership ability and excellent oral, written, and human relations skills are also required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A bachelor’s degree in broadcasting or communication is preferred.

THE DEPARTMENT:  WQPT Public Television is a department of Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, located in Moline, Illinois. WQPT's serves half a million television viewers in the region through open-air signals and local cable systems. PBS serves as America's largest classroom, the country's largest stage for the arts, and is a trusted window to the world. WQPT offers local programming through programs such as "The Cities" and "Out and About". Master control for the station resides off-campus, and eleven staff comprise the WQPT team, and maintain programming, traffic and operations, video production, development, membership coordination, marketing, special events, and business and operations management.

WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 10,423): A traditional, residential four-year campus with select graduate programs, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,235): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. The Quad Cities is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
