Salary commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Academic Specialist, twelve month 100% appointment in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Department of Plant Biology. Duties include serving as an academic advisor for students majoring in either department. This individual will be responsible for working with students from their freshmen year through graduation and beyond. The position interfaces regularly with faculty and academic staff in the College of Natural Science Dean’s Office, the Honors College, and Lyman Briggs College. The selected individual will participate in all Academic Orientation Programs and student affairs activities throughout the year on behalf of the departments. The successful candidate will participate in departmental curriculum meetings as ex-officio and also participate in college-wide advisor meetings and professional development activities. This individual will work collaboratively with the Undergraduate Program Directors and the faculty to provide comprehensive advising service to prospective students, current students, and alumni.

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in science is required, preferably a biological science. Experience working with college age students; good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are also required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Research experience and familiarity with University policies and procedures are desirable.
