Columbus State University has an opening for a Student Development Specialist – Student Activities and Organizations in the Office of Student Life and Development. Reporting to the Senior Director for Student Engagement, this position assists in the planning and implementation of all programs and services supported by the Office of Student Life and Development.

The responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to: advising two student-programming boards for Main Campus and RiverPark Campus; provide training and leadership to registered student organizations and campus advisors; collaborate with staff and student-programming board and community members for the annual Miss CSU Pageant; oversee Welcome Week with student and staff programming board; manage a software platform that tracks registered student organizations, events and assessment; serve as liaison to Athletics and other university departments; collaborate with local and regional entities to involve students within the community. This position will evaluate current policies, practices and procedures to provide a meaningful co-curricular experience for the entire student body of Columbus State University. This position also assists with drafting university reports, assessing and evaluating programs, facilitating budget responsibilities, and overall daily administration of the office.

Minimum qualifications include Bachelor’s degree is required; three to five years of experience in supervising student staff; and three to five years of experience in student and/ or event programming. The successful candidate must have the ability to direct co-curricular student experiences; experience in program implementation, program evaluation and assessment; must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to assist in analyze and develop operational plans to ensure that basic operations of the department run effectively and efficiently with no significant back logs or neglect of departmental responsibilities; ability to display sound oral and written communication skills; demonstrated experience with conflict mediation, resolution efforts, and negotiations; displays expertise in negotiating, facilitating, drafting, and communicating external and internal contractual agreements; ability to interact with multiple constituencies both on and off campus; displays ability to draft, interpret and convey effective and efficient policy and procedural initiatives; ability to effectively communicate with students to capture their sense of social, cognitive, emotional, and mental well-being; develops and manages co-curricular objectives and initiatives that support the growth and development of college students; maintain and facilitate professional interactions among university constituency, university administrators, community members, external stakeholders and prospective and current students and families; and ability to monitor and facilitate other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Educational Policy Studies or related field preferred. Knowledge of various computer programs and exhibition of creative personality is preferred.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
