Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Office of Development in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences helps alumni and friends of the College give to North Carolina State University. We connect their areas of interest with the mission of the college and university and work directly with donors on their funding priorities. The Office of Development seeks to keep our alumni, donors and friends engaged with NC State through our many programs.
Essential Job Duties:
The Assistant Director of Development reports to the Executive Director of Development for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS). The position’s primary responsibility is the identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of individual prospects who are graduates and friends of CHASS and who are capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more. The position will focus on expanding the College’s pipeline through discovery visits.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Minimum of 2 years of progressive responsibility in development, event management, stewardship or related field.
Departmental Required Skills:
Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication. Ability to articulate the case for support. Responsible for written communications including donor letters, proposals, briefings and stewardship reports.
Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Possess strong organization and analytical skills.
Experience in cold calling, negotiating and closing business.
Willingness to travel frequently and participate in occasional evening and weekend activities.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably in development or advancement
Knowledge of NC State culture, tradition, and strategic mission.
Working knowledge of Advance donor database system.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License required.
