The Division of Student Life in the Office of the Student Experience is pleased to invite qualified candidates to apply for the position of Class Dean at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY to provide support to a respective class year of students and the overall Student Experience initiative.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of the Student Experience, the Class Dean will plan and implement program initiatives and intervention strategies for the class that will enhance student engagement, success, and affinity group development. The Dean will also serve as liaison to the five schools and other campus departments to enhance the overall experience for students. This includes performing collaborative work with other Class Deans in order to focus on seamless transitions from year to year.
The Class Dean will oversee class-specific programming, initiatives, and their respective budgets, that build affinity groups, promote student engagement and support retention efforts. The incumbent will provide leadership and oversight of class-specific students and activities through collaboration with the residential commons, student union, and various other campus departments. As an active member of the Intervention team, the successful candidate will identify and support students in need of intervention and make appropriate referrals and/or provide appropriate support in a timely manner. This includes serving as emergency responder, and as a member of the campus-wide dean on duty rotation. The Class Dean will also serve as Judicial Hearing Officer, and hear student conduct cases and assign appropriate educational sanction.
Additionally, The Class Dean will provide general outreach, counseling, and personal assistance, and academic advising for students in respective class that ensures supports the welfare and success of Rensselaer students.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in student personnel or higher education administration, education or counseling and 5 years of professional experience.
