UIT works in partnership with schools, business units, and other academic support organizations to provide campus-wide services in the areas of academic and research technology, enterprise application systems and services, networking and telecommunications, information security, data center operations, and user support, training and outreach.
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Administration, the Assistant Director, IT Contracts and Software Management Services is responsible for directing and managing UIT’s efforts in the areas of information technology contracts and software licensing and management. Working collaboratively with the University Purchasing Office and University General Counsel and supervising the work of one professional staff member, this position establishes, streamlines and executes processes and guidelines for the development, negotiation and management of business requirements for technology contracts and agreements. In collaboration with the Tufts IT support community and others from within UIT, this position also develops processes and plans to simplify and improve the management of enterprise-wide software purchases, renewals and distribution in order to facilitate licensing access and compliance for University employees and distributed desktop support personnel. S/he consults with IT professionals, faculty and other university administrators to proactively identify software needs and then to investigate opportunities for strategic and advantageous purchasing of either volume or site license purchases with software vendors to ensure both cost-effective purchasing decisions and the equal availability of up-to-date software necessary for the successful operation of day-to-day university business. S/he will regularly prepare financial and usage analyses and present proposals covering the purchase, distribution and ongoing management of such opportunities if approved. Demonstrated experience in establishing and overseeing an effective and highly distributed software acquisition, distribution and management operation, in negotiating and managing a portfolio of highly complex and/or time-sensitive technology contracts, and the ability to guide, advise, and mentor university personnel at all levels through the technology purchase process are essential.

Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ten plus (10+) years of experience in technology contracts management and/or software licensing, distribution and management
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office 2010 (Word and Excel), Adobe Acrobat or similar, and Windows
- Good understanding of the universe of information technology
- Proven experience managing a service/operational area/program, including overseeing staff and establishing direction
- Experience developing, leading and communicating software acquisition, distribution and management processes in a matrix organization with a highly distributed service delivery model
- Ability to think strategically as well as tactically and to exercise sound judgment in problem-solving and priority/goal setting
- Extensive and in-depth knowledge of software licensing and management and technology hardware and services agreements
- Demonstrated experience and ability to understand and draft business requirements and to interpret technology contract business terms
- Precise oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation and facilitation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and contracts at once and to prioritize workload for self and others
- Able to establish framework and metrics for monitoring, tracking, and maintaining documentation for multiple contracts involving multiple business areas
- Experience leading and facilitating meetings
- Experience developing, maintaining, and communicating operational and performance metrics
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technology agreement concepts to non-technical audiences
- Effective relationship management and inter-personal skills
- Strong research, problem-solving and analytical skills along with an ability to analyze and streamline applicable business processes

- Superior organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines successfully
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD, MBA other advanced degree or professional certification
- Continued currency with evolving university policy, applicable law, software licensing and technology delivery models
- IT contracts and/or software licensing and management experience in a higher education environment
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
- This position’s work schedule will often include evenings and weekends, and additional work hours beyond the normal schedule.
