The School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is considering the recruitment of an Associate Professor to serve as the Chair for the Department of Architecture & Interior Design. As the School operates on two campuses [Beirut & Byblos], the Chair of the Department will be responsible for all the programs that fall under this department on both campuses, assisted by an Associate Chair. The Chair will be located on one of the two campuses, with the Associate Chair serving on the other campus.

The Department of Architecture & Design offers undergraduate degrees in Architecture, Interior Architecture and Interior Design, and serves a total of 1500 students. The architecture program is currently undergoing NAAB accreditation, and the Interior Design programs are also scheduled for review and accreditation in the coming years. The department is also studying the possibility of offering masters programs in the near future.
The Chair of the Department will be primarily responsible for upholding and enhancing the academic standards of the various programs, for promoting faculty development, for managing human and physical resources, as well as assisting the Dean in promoting the programs at a national and international scale, and substantively contributing to strategic planning. The Chair is also expected to initiate departmental activities within the school and the community at large. S/he will also be in charge of initiating curricular revisions and following on program accreditation, as well as leading the accreditation process. The Chair carries a 12 credit/year teaching load in his/her areas of interest.
The ideal candidate should have leadership and communication skills, and a record of administrative experience, in addition to teaching and research. The Chairmanship is a 3-year term position, renewable upon mutual satisfaction and with the support of the faculty. In the event of non-renewal of the Chair position, the candidate would return to the rank of Associate Professor and teach the regular load for that rank.
Minimum qualifications are: Masters in Architecture/ Interior Design/ Interior Architecture, in addition to teaching and administrative experience. The candidate should also be at Associate Professor rank or above.
