The Institute for Public and Preventive Health

The goal of the IPPH is to improve health, reduce health disparities, and prevent injury and illness In Georgia through research, service, leadership, and training. These will include the areas of health management and administration, epidemiology, behavioral health and health education, environmental and occupational health and biostatistics. The knowledge gained will lead to new approaches and informed decisions in the planning of public and preventive health strategies across our local community, Georgia and the nation. The Institute will develop multiple community health networks and conduct rigorous interdisciplinary and community-based research. Furthermore, the institute will enhance the educational experience of GHSU students by imbedding public & preventive health concepts in their curricula and providing the opportunity of acquiring dual degrees (e.g. MD/MPH & DMD/MPH).

The Community

Nestled along the banks of the Savannah River, Augusta is the second largest city in Georgia. It is renowned internationally for its annual Masters Golf Tournament. Known as the `Garden City', Augusta features picturesque and friendly neighborhoods, low cost of living, and plenty of cultural and recreational opportunities.

It is a growing and thriving city which was recently ranked 22nd of the 367 U.S. metropolitan areas that Kiplinger's Personal Finance considered for its list of Best Cities for the Next Decade. Augusta has many artistic organizations including the Augusta Opera Association, the Augusta Ballet, the Fort Gordon Dinner Theater, the Augusta Players, the Augusta Symphony, the Morris Museum of Art and the Augusta Museum of History to name a few.

Major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta and Columbia, SC are within a short driving distance, as are many scenic destinations, including the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic coast, and historic locations, including Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC.

Minimum Requirements
Required qualifications include:

Earned doctoral degree, preferably with postdoctoral research experience.

Demonstrated excellence in research as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed journals

Preferably with a history of extramural funding, including federal grants

Evidence of a collaborative approach to research

The University invites applications for a faculty position in public and environmental health. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active, independent program of extramurally funded research to complement the research strengths and goals of the University¿s Institute for Public and Preventive Health within a research-intensive academic health center. This is a 12-month, non-tenure or tenure-track appointment. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to community-based participatory research; health and risk assessment, exposure assessment, environmental justice, sustainability, climate change, program evaluation and support.
