The University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts Digital Media and Design Program invites applications for a full-time nine-month, tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Interaction Design and Development. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of the underlying academic disciplines and professional practices involved in interactive media, interface and user experience design and development including graphic design and animation, human interface design, human-computer interaction, and mobile application development. This candidate will develop and deliver core courses in interactive media design.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have at least a BFA, BS or BA, (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable). Candidate must also have: Demonstrated professional expertise developing dynamic and engaging screen-based experiences such as: interactive environments and public space activation, mobile applications, web sites, web applications, and digital kiosks, Experience with web design/development technologies such as HTML 5.0, CSS 3.0, JavaScript, Action script, PHP, MySQL, jQuery, and other emerging standards; Experience with the effective integration of social media tools and techniques; Familiarity with supporting graphics, animation and programming applications; A strong portfolio demonstrating ideation, design, final project implementation in the field of interactive design.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with and MFA or Ph.D. degree; Fluency with one or more of the major mobile programming languages such as: C, C++, C#, Objective - C, and/or Java; Fluency in one or more of the following: PHP, JavaScript, Actionscript, Perl, JRuby, Python, Etc.; Successful development and publishing of mobile applications using the Android SDK, iOS SDK, or other competitive platform; Successful development and deployment of media wall installations for public spaces activated by interactive sensing systems including demonstrated fluency with associated control, scheduling and display technologies; Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, motors, camera feeds and their associated software and hardware interfaces such as: Max/MSP/Jitter, Arduino, Kinect, and other tools; A record of distinguished teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate/graduate level.

This is a full-time nine-month, tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The Storrs campus is located in Connecticut between Boston and New York City.
