Position Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Outreach Coordinator for Women's Programs is responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of diversity related activities for the campus community, with primary emphasis being on initiatives related to women. This position is a staff member in the Office of Multicultural Affairs and reports directly the Director of Multicultural Affairs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Develop and provide programs and services for female undergraduate and graduate students. Programs and services should be focused on helping them achieve their educational and professional goals as well as meeting their personal, physical and safety needs.
-Conduct program assessment to determine effectiveness of programs and alignment with student needs using surveys, tracking academic persistence and success, and student satisfaction. Benchmark program delivery and effectiveness against those of peer institutions.
-Provide significant support and leadership to student organizations supporting women.
-Offer programming that addresses issues of concern to women and that helps to raise awareness of women's issues across campus, such as lectures, workshops, and professional development seminars.
-Work with the Director of Multicultural Affairs to develop and maintain up to date electronic and hard copy materials that promote the work of the university in supporting female students and in promoting an inclusive campus environment.
-Implement and evaluate pipeline programs aimed at encouraging young women to consider careers in the STEM disciplines (e.g. STEM Saturdays and Tech Girls, among others).
-Represent WPI at key professional organizations (e.g. WEPAN) and collaborate with others in the field to support women's programming and services.
-Assist the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices in the recruitment of prospective students. Help to support female student recruitment through targeted campus programs and activities as well as electronic and hard copy communications.
-In collaboration with the Director of Multicultural Affairs, develop and disseminate annual report reviewing key initiatives, effectiveness, recommendations and future objectives as they relate to the support of female students at WPI.
-Serve as a key member of the leadership team that oversees Corporate Leadership Development programs that are targeted to women and underrepresented students.
-Work with the Career Development Center to expand internship opportunities for women.
-Create opportunities for women to participate in REU internships at WPI once externally funded.
-Support WPI's Strategic Plan for diversity and pluralism.
-Provide support to departmental advisory boards as needed, including the Diversity and Women's Advisory Board.
-Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of student staff as required.
-Serve on campus committees that have an impact on the quality of campus life for women students and the development of women students as they near graduation.
-Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree required.
-Experience working in higher education administration and/or with students in STEM disciplines highly desirable.
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development of collaborative programming both internal and external to an institute of higher education.
-Demonstrated skill in establishing good working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
-Excellent written and oral communication required.
