Job Description
The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment to serve as instructor in the Dance Division. He/she will teach courses in modern dance technique, dance technology and choreography. The ability to also teach one or more of the following content areas is desired: improvisation, dance and video, dance history, somatic practices, and/or repertory. They will participate in choreographic and other creative work. He/she will also take on departmental administrative duties, committee work, and be engaged in the day-to-day business of the MSU dance program, including participation in juries, auditions, and scheduling.
He/she will incorporate dance technology in all of its many facets into our program such as long distance creation of new works via video and the internet, creation of sound and music scores, multi-media for both choreography projects and performance, and using technology to research and access resources related to dance history, criticism, and dance wellness. In addition, this new faculty member may develop on-line courses which will serve MSU students as well as students from other universities.
The Department of Theatre and Dance has both a BFA and BA in Dance with approximately 120 majors, the equivalency of 4 full time faculty, about 20 professional adjuncts, four dance studios and three annual concerts a year. The Dance Division has a very active professional artist program including choreographic works by Paul Taylor, Bill T. Jones, Robert Battle, Jose Limon and Earl Mosley to name a few.
Qualifications & Requirements
Qualifications include demonstrated teaching ability and professional experience in contemporary dance and use of technology in the classroom and in choreography. MFA degree in dance or professional experience with credentials required.
