Director of Admissions and Relations with Schools

The Position
The Director of Admissions and Relations with Schools is the chief administrative officer responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing undergraduate admissions policies and practices, and for enrolling academically
talented and ethnically, geographically, and socio-economically diverse California, domestic, and international students in fulfillment of the University's annual enrollment goals. The Director develops strategies, programs, and services to facilitate successful enrollment to the campus, ensure transparent and fair standards to evaluate students for admission, communicate University enrollment opportunities, and position UC Irvine as a top-choice institution for college enrollment. The Director uses sound judgment to ensure the quality and integrity of admissions processing and activities, consults with and informs campus faculty, UCI administrative leadership, and UC system personnel on admissions trends and policy impacts, makes recommendations to ensure access and equity to UC higher education, and develops strategies to ensure sound management of University fiscal resources and personnel. The position oversees 35 staff with 6 direct reports, approximately 122 student assistants (campus ambassadors, tour guides, and public information staff), and 103 external readers, and manages a departmental budget of approximately $4.25 million
dollars. This does not include 6 Information Technology FTE on campus who are dedicated to supporting the Admissions function.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of exemplary experience in admissions or enrollment management is required. (An advanced or terminal degree in higher education, public policy, or related field is preferred.) Successful candidates must also exhibit knowledge of and experience with student development theory; strong leadership skills
demonstrated by the ability to teach, influence, persuade, and inspire others to take action based on a vision and strategic objectives; effective personnel management and negotiation skills; outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills demonstrated by the ability to interact with a diverse range of people, including professional staff, students, faculty, parents, system-wide colleagues, community partners, and media; superior judgment and excellent organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to balance numerous demands and activities, evaluate competing priorities, and implement effective solutions; experience writing, interpreting, and revising policies; counseling skills to mediate conflict, problem-solve, and respond to student concerns; exceptional critical and creative thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of challenges; strong strategic planning and financial skills with experience directing resources to accomplish strategic objectives and a track record of analysis, program evaluation, budget review, fundraising, grant procurement, and risk management; significant administrative and programming experience at an institution with a diverse residential and commuter student population; experience collaborating and creating cross-campus partnerships with colleagues; and the ability to travel outside of normal business hours to domestic and international locations.
