Keene State College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Graphic Design beginning August 2013. We seek candidates who have an excellent college-level teaching record and strong professional practice experience with a personal and informed view of contemporary design issues, technology, and criticism.
The successful candidate shall be well-versed in graphic design theory and practice in all aspects of visual communication including conceptual development and must be able to teach a variety of undergraduate graphic design courses in both print-based and screen-based media. The new faculty member will contribute to the development of the graphic design curriculum and lead in the advancement of the program, particularly in the area of dynamic media.
The standard teaching load is six courses per academic year. Faculty members are also encouraged to mentor undergraduate research/creative activities and to teach courses developed for the college-wide Integrative Studies program. Other responsibilities include continued engagement in professional research and creative activity and active participation in departmental and college-wide service duties including student advising and helping to maintain two Mac labs. The Department offers both BA and BFA degrees and provides instruction to approximately 160 majors. The Graphic Design program is housed in the newly-renovated Media Arts Center. The planning process is currently underway for the College’s new Visual and Media Arts Center, an expanded facility housing art, graphic design and other media-related disciplines under one roof.

Qualifications: MFA in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, or closely associated and relevant field by August 1, 2013; at least three years of industry experience in the area(s) related to their design expertise is required. Preferred qualifications include college-level teaching experience beyond teaching assistantship; expertise in graphic design theory and typography across print-based and screen-based media; expertise in dynamic media; extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (CS6); experience in curriculum development and program advancement; experience in motion graphics and animation; computer lab management experience. Salary will be based on Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, and is $61,720 minimum for the rank of Assistant Professor for fall 2013.
