We are seeking innovative leaders for a key faculty and administrative positions.
This position provides primary clerical support in the operation of the Tacoma Community College Writing and Tutoring Center. Responsibilities include assisting in the management of student tracking database software and providing training; overseeing front desk staff clerical functions, assisting in the development of the web, portal, and social media presence; assisting in the development of marketing strategies; monitoring and reviewing budgets; interacting with data and statistics, including reporting; answering questions and providing students, tutors, staff and faculty with information both online and in person regarding the Writing & Tutoring Center’s (WTC) policies and activities. This position reports to the Program Director of the Writing & Tutoring Center/Reading & Study Skills Center.
Essential Functions:
•Assist in the oversight and management of the campus web-based tutor tracking database program for all TCC programs, including the WTC, Math Advising Resource Center (MARC), Business Education Center (BEC), Reading & Study Skills Center, and Center for Academic Support (CASA). Provide database program training for staff and students across campus.
•Serve as liaison between Student Learning Centers, Enrollment Services, Information Systems, program directors, and program’s administrator.
•Oversee clerical functions of the program, including the work of front desk staff. In addition, edit material created by staff, support front desk staff’s reception duties with an emphasis on providing outstanding customer service and make referrals.
•Assist in the development and maintenance of web, portal, social network presence and Parature seat for the WTC and Reading & Study Skills Center, including managing submission side of Digital Learning Library catalogue and developing knowledge base articles for Parature site. Serve as liaison with library and eLearning departments.
•Serve as primary technology and marketing liaison for TCC’s role in the Western eTutoring Consortium, including maintaining student database interface with eTutoring on the Portal and developing marketing and training materials for tutors, staff, and students.
•Develop marketing strategies and materials for the WTC and TCC Learning Network using design software.
•Perform budget monitoring and internal review ensuring availability of funds, and reporting potential problems. Prepare related documents and coordinate purchasing for office supplies/equipment including recording expenses, and tracking program expenditures using budget track and spreadsheet software.
•Perform complex word processing and spreadsheet tasks to create, maintain and revise forms, documents, and data relating to the WTC operations. Use a database and spreadsheets to track and maintain student, tutor, and resource accounts and profiles to generate reports. Assist in the preparation, compilation, and coordination of program statistical reports and records.
•Serve as the initial point of contact in the WTC. Confer with other campus departments; serve as a resource person for campus committees involving WTC operations. Answer email and telephones, resolve problems and assist students, faculty, tutors and staff with inquiries regarding departmental procedures and services.
•Provide clerical and organizational day-to-day and behind-the-scenes support to the Program Director of the Writing & Tutoring Center. Initiate and process correspondence.
•Tutor writing and support training of writing tutors in the WTC.
•Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
•High school graduation or equivalent.
•Two years full-time equivalent (FTE) increasingly responsible secretarial or clerical experience.
•Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet and database software skills.
Preferred Qualifications
•Associates degree from an accredited college.
•Experience as a tutor, lab, or instructional assistant preferably in a writing and/or tutoring center.
•Experience with web-based courseware, content, and/or management software.
•Experience using design software to develop marketing materials.

Terms of Employment
This is full time position scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs. Due to Washington State’s budget situation and as a part of the collective bargaining agreement, a temporary 3% salary reduction will be implemented from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. The salary range during this reduction will be $2,212 to $2,769 per month. Tacoma Community College offers a generous benefits package to include: life, health, dental and long-term disability insurance, state retirement, vacation leave, sick leave and holiday pay. A collective bargaining agreement exists and membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees or payment of a service fee is required within 30 calendar days of employment. The layoff unit for this position is “All other WFSE Classified”.
