In response to long term growth and the importance of nuclear power in the nation’s energy portfolio, The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer is seeking candidates for the
Edward E. Hood, Jr. Professor in Nuclear Engineering

As part of its strategic initiative to revitalize and grow the Nuclear Engineering program, the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY is pleased to offer this unique opportunity to help define and shape a Nuclear Engineering program through the nuclear "renaissance" and the 21st century.

The Edward E. Hood, Jr. Professor in Nuclear Engineering will be a tenured Full Professor, and be required to maintain a robust program of sponsored research, teach assigned graduate and/or undergraduate courses and serve the School of Engineering.

Candidates must possess a comprehensive vision for Nuclear Engineering meet the requirements for a tenured faculty position in the School of Engineering at Rensselaer. Individuals with expertise in the broad area of nuclear engineering such as reactor physics, nuclear materials, fuel cycle, biomedical applications of radiation, and applications of radiation are strongly encouraged to apply. At minimum, candidates must possess an earned doctorate degree in nuclear engineering, engineering physics or other closely related discipline as well as five (5) or more years of postgraduate experience to a record of strong teaching skills and an internationally recognized research program, as well as having demonstrated the skills needed to integrate with a multi-disciplinary department.

The Nuclear Engineering Program at Rensselaer houses a powerful electron linear accelerator capable of delivering intense neutron and gamma beams, a unique low power (<100W) open pool reactor, and several teaching and research laboratories. These facilities provide an excellent opportunity to develop unique leading research and teaching programs.
