Job Description Summary:
Valdosta State University invites applications for the position of Dean, College of the Arts. The College seeks an articulate, energetic leader who will build from a strong foundation to capitalize on opportunities and address challenges. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, administrative faculty appointment beginning July 1, 2013.
The Dean is the chief academic officer of the College and reports directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. Duties include overseeing academic programs; faculty affairs, budget and facilities; strategic planning; and communication. In addition, the Dean directs accreditation activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the position must hold an appropriate terminal degree from a regionally accredited university; rank of professor or equivalent, and have earned tenure in one of the programs offered within the College. At least three years of successful leadership experience and budget responsibility are desirable. The successful candidate must have demonstrated participatory decision making within a shared governance structure; achievement in fostering academic excellence and research; an empirical orientation to innovation; experience with technology infusion; and effectiveness in building consensus, communicating change, overcoming resistance, and evaluating the impact of change.
