Otterbein University, a comprehensive and innovative liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus, Ohio area, invites immediate applications for an assistant or associate professor position in Education with the appointment beginning in August 2014. This is a tenure-track position with commensurate expectations for teaching, scholarship and service.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education with relevant emphasis in English/integrated language arts; minimum 3 years' grades 4-12 teaching experience; college level teaching experience in middle/secondary/AYA methods preferred; NCATE experience and/or interest in department leadership/administration duties desirable.
Responsibilities include: The successful applicant will be expected to teach diverse, talented students in undergraduate and graduate level courses for education majors and licensure seekers in the Middle Childhood and Adolescent/Young Adult/Multiage Programs The department seeks an engaged, collegial faculty member to join a team of 14 full-time and approximately 20 part-time faculty members in pursuing the common goal of preparing high quality teachers for the 21st century. Faculty will be expected to teach methods courses to and supervise field experiences of initial licensure teacher candidates (undergraduate and master’s level) and other courses within her/his area of expertise. The successful candidate will be one who is dedicated to equity and social justice; who values and pursues collegial relationships within the department, across campus, and with teachers and administrators in K-12 schools; and who desires to participate in an institution where both quality teaching and active research are valued. The education department is particularly interested in candidates who are familiar with (or willing to learn) any or all of the following: construction and delivery of courses in a hybrid/online format, external accreditation processes (NCATE), administrative or leadership experience, and the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA). We seek candidates who are willing to participate in the practices and initiatives necessary to maintain high quality, cutting-edge programs in teacher education. Faculty are expected to be actively involved in scholarship, department and campus committee work, and professional service.
