Position Summary:
Research Assistant activities will support the successful implementation of a multi-site randomized clinical trial and high quality community-based research through the combined efforts of teamwork and cooperation. The maintenance of good communication across study and clinical staff is essential for study success. The research assistant will be working at a primary community health center (the study site), as well as at Northeastern University. Study implementation activities: advertising, screening, recruitment in the community as well as at the study site, and assembling assessments following prescribed protocol. Assist with study conduct at the study site by organizing and by maintaining the schedule to coordinate clinical and research staff for participant meetings. Enter data into computerized data files, participate in research, training, and Community Advisory Board meetings with the Principal Investigator, maintain contacts with key Latino community leaders in regards to the research, assist with literature reviews. Study advertisement activities include flyers and radio talk show. Study conduct activities involve scheduling and coordinating study times and maintaining the study site, administration of the breath test for alcohol use, an assessment battery, and maintaining equipment to record clinical data. Provide transportation and compensation for study time to study participants. Make appointments with participants for all study contacts in a timely manner and maintain communications with participants to ensure a positive treatment retention rate. Follow-up interviews can be conducted in person and over the phone as needed. Complete follow-up interviews in a timely manner. Maintain security and confidentiality of data-base, removing any materials that may compromise patient confidentiality. Bi-lingual (Spanish) required. Knowledge of the Boston Latino community a plus. The total number of participants to be enrolled is 357, with expected attrition to be 250 in the randomized clinical trial.
Qualifications:
Research Assistant is expected to be bi-lingual (Spanish). High interpersonal communication, and organizational skills, as well as ability to work on the team. Professional attitude and attention to important detail required. Knowledge of computer applications, including word processing, Endnote and Excel, required. BA or BS in psychology or equivalent combination of degree and experience required, with evidence of academic achievement. Previous research experience through academic training or previous work experience preferred. Knowledge of experimental research methodology, clinical research procedures preferred. Must be able to work some evenings/weekends when necessary.
