The Division of Information Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Manager, Network Operations. The Manager, Network Operations manages the installation, administration, maintenance and operation of NUnet, the University-wide network and supervises networking operations staff on all ongoing projects. The manager is responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the day-to-day operation of the network operations organization to ensure customer satisfaction. This individual establishes and documents processes and procedures to troubleshoot routine technical service and equipment troubles by analyzing, identifying and diagnosing faults and systems. This individual also ensures that staff is kept aware of changes and are properly trained, defines service levels, service agreements and manages the development of the network operations personnel. The Manager, Network Operations provides guidance to the IS Customer Service support staff, configures and maintains routers, switches, and hubs for the production network, and monitors network performance; ensures capacity planning is performed and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement. To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and on some university holidays.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline. 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role focusing on network service and support delivery required. Also requires excellent organizational, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have thorough understanding of business considerations, both long-term planning and operational. Candidate must possess superior troubleshooting skills, including expertise in troubleshooting switched ethernet networks. Experience with Cisco, Juniper and Nortel LAN and WAN interconnecting products is preferred. Knowledge and experience in supporting wide area networks, thorough knowledge of the legacy Internet and related technologies. Candidate must have demonstrated experience in motivating skilled technical network personnel. Network product certifications, e.g. Cisco, Juniper and/or Nortel will be seriously considered.
