International Co-op Counselor

The Counselor will participate in all aspects of the student preparation phase of international co-op. Work in collaboration with Senior International Co-op Counselors, Co-op Faculty Coordinators to pre-screen, select and schedule meetings with students to discuss international co-op options. Advise students individually and in-groups to make preliminary assessments about their cultural preparedness, language abilities, basic travel experience etc. Take initiative and reach out to international student organizations on campus for potential job development opportunities and to connect the international students with the students who are interested in international co-ops in their countries of interest. Assist the International Co-op Intern with running the Student Ambassador Program and effectively using social media to promote the International Co-op Program. Provide content and regularly update International Co-op Program website and social media feeds. Assist the Director of International Co-op with the day-to-day workflow of preparing students for global co-op placements, including responding to student questions, the scheduling and preparation of on-campus interviews, and assisting in compiling data, information and reports. Provide additional operational support to International Co-op staff as needed.
•Bachelor’s in Marketing, Communications, International Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, Human Resources or related degrees required.
•Minimum of 1 experience overseas with a strong interest in international education required. 2 years preferred,
•Proficiency in at least 1 foreign language is preferred.
•Must possess patience, a positive, outgoing attitude, a sense of humor, good interpersonal and social skills.
•Must be flexible yet logical when dealing with students and communicate effectively (writing, listening, speaking)
•Familiarity with blogging, using Skype and social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter required.
•Good presentation skills and solid experience in preparing PowerPoint Presentations required.
•Ability to be self-motivated, relate to a diverse student population, work independently and follow-through on assigned tasks.
•Strong problem-solving, decision making, analyzing skills.
•Ability to learn and use the University’s student data management system.
