Position Summary:
The Director of Facilities, Safety and Sustainability for the College of Engineering will work with the College and University administrators to plan and implement space and facilities development for the College, enabling the enhancement of it’s research and teaching objectives. The position will coordinate space evaluation, planning, and utilization projects for the Senior Associate Dean, including space needs for new hires (faculty and staff), grant and contract-funded research, and other projects and initiatives together with devising innovative approaches to research space utilization. Responsible for developing and maintaining space inventory and allocation data, including usage (e.g. office, research, instructional, administrative support) and collaborating effectively with administrators, facilities personnel, faculty, and student groups during the design and implementation phase to understand user needs and assure satisfactory results.
The Director of Facilities, Safety and Sustainability will also develop and oversee the College-wide laboratory practices to ensure research and teaching activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with the University’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies. While working in a collegial manner with four Department Safety Officers (DSOs) to implement such practices, this position also serves as the College’s principal liaison to the University EHS office.
This position will also be identifying and targeting areas that will enable the College of Engineering to function in a more sustainable manner while developing strategies to reduce energy, materials and water use in various processes within the College. Working with administrators, faculty, and student groups when developing and implementing sustainability objectives; Conducting outreach, education, and training initiatives that will assist in successful implementation; Collaborating with faculty and appropriate university personnel to incorporate sustainable College initiatives into curriculum.
Qualifications:
Requirements for this position include a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Policy, or Environmental Health with 3-5 years of project management experience preferably in a higher education environment. Expertise in laboratory safety practices, environmental issues/compliance, sustainability/green initiatives; demonstrated strength with multitasking and working with several groups simultaneously; Excellent communication and leadership skills together with strong technical skills; Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
