The Director is responsible for the primary oversight, development and execution of DMSB engagement programs, signature events as well as all-inclusive college specific alumni events. The Director will also focus on the overall plan and coordination of alumni and friends engagement for DMSB, including: 1.) The overall vision and plan of execution for the program, 2.) The oversight and cohesiveness of the variety of engagement activities within the school, 3.) The development of standard operating procedures for engagement to ensure consistency and high quality of the volunteer experience, 4.) The development of new, and the expansion of existing, opportunities of engagement, 5.) The overall management of internal relationships of various teams within DMSB as it relates to high level alumni and prospective donor engagement.
The Director is also a key team member who will oversee event specific activities that will demand a great deal of collaboration with the Office of Alumni Affairs (and a number of internal programs within the college. Expectations and objectives include some of the following: 1.) planning and facilitation of signature and all-inclusive college level alumni events, with a high degree of coordination with the Office of Alumni Relations, 2.) evaluating current and future events in order to determine and implement continual improvements, 3.) developing new signature forums to appeal to affinity groups and a wide range of alumni that bring people back to campus or engages people regionally, 4.) developing departmental standard operating procedures for event planning, and production in order to ensure consistent delivery of high quality events, 5.) managing relationships and work flow of various teams within DMSB, the University Advancement division and the broader University as well as external entities and vendors in order to bring together components of signature and all-inclusive alumni events.
The Director is a member of the management team of the department, leads by example and sets the strategic direction of the department in partnership with the Associate Dean for Advancement. The management team is responsible for developing and executing programming, events, and systems to support and connect DMSB alumni to the school to foster an even greater relationship to Northeastern University. The Director is a team member that not only collaborates and coordinates the work with the Office of University Advancement (especially within the Office of Alumni Affairs), but also has the capacity to do the full range of work involved in alumni engagement and events. Some evening and weekend work required as event needs dictate. Other duties as assigned by Associate Dean.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred; Six to eight years of experience in all aspects of planning and producing complex events and volunteer programs; Strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills; Two to three years of supervisory management experience; Excellent management, negotiation, analytic, information-gathering, organizational, communications (written and oral),and computer skills; Extreme attention to detail; High level of self-confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, engagement, self-motivation, and energy to undertake diverse responsibilities. Ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time; Proven ability to interact with many constituencies with a strong customer-service focus; Experience working in higher education a plus.
