The Director – Academic Student Services provides leadership and management of student and parent support services in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program. The Director ensures that academic standards of the college and university are upheld. Day-to-day management is extremely busy serving over 3,000 students with a focus on retention and enhancing the quality of advising services.
The Director is responsible for supervising eleven academic advising staff and is involved with the development of advising programs. Keeps advising teams well-informed on CBA and University academic requirements, policies and procedures and communicates updates as needed. Interacts with advisors, students, parents and faculty in resolving student services and advising issues. A high level of problem-solving skill is required. Works with the Assistant Dean and Director of BSIB on human resources issues, hiring, training and staff development. Represents the College on University committees to provide the Business Administration perspective.
Engages in long-term planning, development, implementation, management, and evaluation of advising programs. Uses the Argos system, other data sources, and surveys to collect and analyze data to build and assess programming to enhance retention and graduation rates. Using a variety of data sources, works with the Associate Dean to assess the effectiveness of advising, classroom and coop experiences for students. Proactively addresses systemic problems so that service to students (and their parents) is transparent and smooth.
Master’s degree is required with a minimum of eight years of experience in higher education and at least three years of academic advising. Has extensive counseling and supervisory experience. Individual must demonstrate the ability to set and analyze goals, take initiative, follow through, be organized, and be attentive to detail. Possesses excellent leadership qualities and be able to manage a diverse staff to work together and function smoothly. Most importantly, this individual must have excellent oral and written communication skills, leadership and team-building skills, plus be able to allow the professional staff autonomy to handle routine activities but be supportive and act as a resource at all times. Able to interact effectively with a variety of diverse levels and cultural backgrounds. Must be able to handle multiple critical issues simultaneously. Must be able to engage in long-term planning and program implementation and assessment. Excellent data manipulation skills to include MS Excel and Access proficiency required to facilitate data-driven decisions. This position is essential to the student-centered nature of the Undergraduate Business Programs Office.
