Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Advancement, this position is a critical member of the university advancement team and will work closely with the Associate Vice President, other senior development officers, academic leaders across campus and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Advancement, the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President. The Associate Vice President is charged with developing and leading an international advancement program that engages major gift ($100,000 or more) and principal gift ($1,000,000 or more) prospects and donors.


The development associate for international advancement will support the Associate Vice President in efforts to build a strong and supportive community of international parents and alumni. S/he will serve as the primary liaison between international families and the offices that provide both academic and student life support to undergraduate students. With the Associate Vice President, s/he will proactively manage a portfolio of 50 parents, providing support, assistance and guidance to their sons and daughters in order to assure full integration into the university community and a quality undergraduate experience from both an academic, as well as a social and cultural perspective.


The development associate manages databases, conducts research, prepares briefings, coordinates events, drafts, edits and prepares final documents and correspondence. S/he manages international travel for the Associate Vice President including developing comprehensive briefings that include biographical information, meeting logistics and cultural protocols.


Regularly communicates with major, principal and presidential prospects and donors, coordinates high-level presidential meetings, and interacts with college-based senior development officers and other senior administrators and faculty across the University. The development associate is also responsible for monitoring and implementing systems to assure strategic follow up by the President, the Provost, senior administrators, and key faculty with major and principal gift prospects and donors.


The position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to listen, a service oriented attitude, a strong work ethic, knowledge of and interest in international affairs, and an appreciation for and sensitivity to Asian, Middle Eastern, European and Latin and South American cultures. The individual must be self-motivated and detail oriented, able to manage workload independently and prioritize and manage ongoing projects at the same time. A background and/or or interest in student advising is a plus. Challenges include juggling multiple responsibilities in a very busy environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required

• Possess at least 2-3 years of experience working in a development office, preferably in higher education

• Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, energetic individual who can think independently and analytically and seeks to build a career in advancement and/or international affairs.

• Ability to manage and facilitate an intense workload and produce quality results in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to manage multiple priority projects at once with ease and efficiency.

• Proactive, anticipate problems, be resourceful and work effectively with colleagues and external constituents at all levels

• Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (deans, faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Knowledge of and interest in international affairs

• Strong organizational skills

• Highly collaborative in approach.

• Ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive material

• Background and/or or interest in student advising is a plus.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel
