Act in the capacity of Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for all Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Academic Training and Co-op related concerns. Serve as a primary resource to international students for issues related to legal requirements concerning cooperative education, internship, and practicum procedures. Manage the processes, data collection, and informational components as required by SEVIS. Serve as a liaison to NU Co-op Coordinator and work in tandem with International Co-op, Career Services and Colleges and Graduate Schools as needed. Presentations to international students and co-op coordinators regarding immigration regulations affecting international students on co-op will be ongoing, and the Division will rely on the Co-op Specialist to keep all members of the division abreast of government regulations and issues related to international students enrolled at Northeastern and employer issues concerning the hire of international students for co-op positions. Work in tandem with the OPT Specialist on employment and training related issues for international students. Keep abreast of federal regulations governing all aspects of CPT and AT. Provide administrative support to the International Student & Scholar Institute. Serve as part of the ISSI team in ensuring university compliance with federal regulations and represent the ISSI at pertinent events.
A minimum of three years of formal work experience in immigration advising and counseling international students is required. Knowledge of SEVIS RTI procedures is essential. Familiarity with batching systems highly preferred. Knowledge of or experience in co-op. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a field related to international education, social sciences, or humanities. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred. Prior study/work abroad or other living experience overseas is helpful, along with knowledge of a second or third language. Strong intercultural communication and interpersonal skills, highly developed organizational abilities and systems management experience crucial, along with the capability to work well with students, ISSI team, and other university departments. US citizenship or permanent residency required.
