Position Summary:
The Division of Information Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Business Intelligence Database Architect. The Business Intelligence Database Architect will be a dedicated member of the Enterprise Data Services team responsible for the implementation and ongoing growth and development of the University’s enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence capabilities. In this role the candidate will work closely with internal business leads and technical resources, as well as external vendors to implement the BlackBoard Analytics data warehouse software as well design and implement additional data marts and analytic structures to support reporting and analytic needs across the University. To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and on some university holidays.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Information Services is seeking a dynamic individual who possesses 5-8 years of expert-level SQL Server database architecture skills, including performance monitoring and tuning, as well as a strong background designing and developing stored procedures and implementing ETL data integration applications. This individual will also posses 5-8 years of experience as a data warehouse modeler and be familiar with proven industry best practice methodologies (e.g., Kimball, Inmon).
Additionally, the candidate will have experience working with Microsoft Business Intelligence and data integration applications, including Analysis Services, Reporting Services, MDX, Proclarity, and SSIS. Familiarity with enterprise Business Intelligence applications such as Cognos 10 and ETL products such as IBM DataStage and Informatica in a higher education environment is a plus.
Experience implementing Blackboard Analytics and practical working knowledge with MS Windows server 2008 R2, including Active Directory and optimal environment configurations are also a plus. This individual must be a highly organized, self-starter, and have excellent project management skills. Also must possess initiative, strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills; and have a solid understanding of systems architecture, systems testing, and software development best practices along with experience in Software Development Life Cycle.
MS SQL Server Database Architecture
-5-8 years (expert-level) knowledge of SQL server database administration/development version 2008 or later in a clustered environment required.
-Setup and configure MS SQL databases and maintain the database performance criteria; perform daily monitoring of database performance
-Develop & maintain all SQL Server database objects, including tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, and functions
-Experience in implementing and enhancing operational automation using scripts
-Performance monitoring & tuning
-Work closely with the Infrastructure and Database Administration teams to implement high availability, robust backup processes and ensure proper performance
-Responsible for the deployment of stored procedures including code review; maintain proper source code control for all database and stored procedure changes
ETL
-Demonstrated experience with SSIS data integration packages and stored procedures
-Experience with extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes from external and internal sources
-Ideally experienced with 3rd party ETL tools such as IBM DataStage or Informatica
MS SQL Server BI Environment
-Significant experience working with Microsoft business intelligence applications, including SSAS, MDX, SSRS, Proclarity/Performance Point, and SharePoint
Enterprise BI Software
-Experience with one or more industry leading BI applications such as Cognos, BusinessObjects, or OBIEE
Data Modeling
-Demonstrated experience designing and implementing dimensional models, OLAP cubes, and other analytic database objects
-5-8 years’ experience in data warehouse design and development, data modeling, architecture, and mapping required.
-Understanding of data warehouse best practices and methodologies, including Kimball, Inmon, etc.
