Position Summary:

Northeastern University’s Bouve College of Health Sciences and College of Science seek outstanding candidates for up to five full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Associate or Full Professor level. These positions will be affiliated with the Center for Drug Discovery (CDD) with academic appointments in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy and affiliated Departments in the College of Science.


The University is ideally situated in Boston, Massachusetts, as part of the premiere biomedical research and clinical hub of the United States, renowned for its use-inspired research and entrepreneurial training programs. The Colleges are the academic homes for faculty in the CDD and the New England Inflammation and Tissue Protection Institute, Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine, and Center for Translational Neuro-Imaging.


The CDD affords an outstanding research environment with state-of-the-art facilities for the design, synthesis and in vitro and in vivo profiling of potential drug candidates and actively collaborates intramurally, with other universities, and with the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industries. Established interdisciplinary discovery programs in the CDD include therapeutic modulation of the endocannabinoid signaling system for indications including substance abuse/drug addiction, neurodegenerative diseases, pain, inflammation, metabolic disorders, and cancer.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree and possess evidence of productive research accomplishments, substantial success in competitive biomedical research, potential to establish a competitively-funded research program relevant to drug discovery, and a commitment to advancing drug-discovery research. Anticipated duties will include establishing and sustaining an independent, high-quality research program and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Demonstrated record of and commitment to teaching, and active participation in expanding the University’s educational activities by developing specialized courses related to drug discovery and related areas of scientific expertise are expected.


We seek candidates for the following positions at the Associate or Full Professor ranks:

• Pharmacologist/Neuroscientist with a strong background in pain/ inflammation research.


• Pharmacologist/Neuroscientist with a strong background in neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, ALS and/or head injury).


• Behavioral Pharmacologist with a strong and successful commitment to drug discovery in the field of addiction who will participate and take a leadership role in the development of a strong program on addiction research.


• Medicinal Chemist with experience in drug discovery and lead optimization using modern approaches. Applicants with strong industrial research backgrounds are welcome.


• Drug Development Scientist with a background in Pharmacokinetics/ Metabolism/Toxicology. Applicants with a strong research background are welcome.
