Reporting to the Director of Student Involvement, the Associate Director (AD) serves as a member of the Center for Student Involvement leadership team and participates in the development, enrichment and assessment of the Center’s programs and services. The AD will provide strategic direction and support to two key areas of student involvement: fraternity/sorority life and student organization programming/advisement.
Student Organization Programming and Advisement: The AD will supervise, evaluate and train two Assistant Directors, one full-time program coordinator and one graduate assistant who are responsible for the programming and advisement of more than 325 diverse student organizations. In addition to the more than 900 events hosted by organizations each year, the AD will provide strategic direction and will support signature programs including but not limited to: SpringFest, Homecoming, Student Life Awards, Summester, Relay for Life, etc. Northeastern boasts a vibrant and collaborative community and as such the AD will provide coordination (in conjunction with the Director) over the signature Student Organization Leadership Council model and will oversee the recognition process for new student organizations.
Fraternity/Sorority Life (FSL) Community: The AD will supervise, evaluate and train two Assistant Directors who are responsible for the day-to-day management and support of our growing fraternal community. The AD is charged with advocating for and enhancing the fraternal community by serving in an advisory capacity for the Fraternity/Sorority Leadership Team. The AD will work closely with the assistant directors to implement and uphold fraternal values, risk management best practices and social justice initiatives and will strive to create a collaborative community among students, alumni/ae and advisors. In addition, the AD will provide coordination and support for signature events such as Greek Week, Recruitment, etc.
Additional Duties: The AD will assume leadership over the Center for Student Involvement in the absence of the Director, will serve on divisional committees and will represent the Center as needed at various events and programs. Frequent nights and weekends will be required to ensure success of the Center’s initiatives. The Center for Student Involvement is a highly collaborative unit that strives to engage students at all levels of our operation. As such, the AD will explore methods to increase opportunities for students to become more engaged in our co-curricular efforts. The Associate Director will leverage technology to improve customer service and student development, will manage a series of budgets and will perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs or equivalent is required in addition to 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience in student activities, major event management and fraternity/sorority life community development. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated success in supervising others. Desire to work at a fast-paced, diverse and vibrant global university is essential. The AD must be able to work collaboratively and be able to make sound decisions independently.
