Position Summary:
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in healthcare systems engineering, broadly defined, with start date of September 2013. Exceptional candidates at any level are encouraged to apply. A candidate is sought to expand the department’s research efforts in one or more of the following areas to support our “Smart Health” strategic initiative: operations research/ management science, quality control and reliability, human factors, logistics/ supply chain, operations management and policy.
Qualifications:
A doctorate in industrial engineering or a closely related field is required. The successful candidate is expected to develop or continue a strong funded research program and excel in teaching.
Additional Information:
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at Northeastern is a large and growing academic enterprise comprising 41 full-time faculty with $10 million in annual research funding, approximately 100 Ph.D., 300 M.S., and a total combined graduate/undergraduate student population of over 1,500. At the core of the Northeastern engineering education experience is our top ranked cooperative education program which contributes significantly to the integrated learning model in use in the College of Engineering. In addition, the Department is home to five federally-funded research centers: 1) The NSF Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) for High-rate Nanomanufacturing, 2) The NSF Center for Health Organization Transformation 3) The NSF Center for Microcontamination Control 4) The VA Engineering Research Center, and 5) The CMS Innovation Center for Healthcare Systems Engineering. Northeastern University also has a 7,000 square foot class 10/100/1000 micro/nanofabrication facility, the Kostas Center (http://www.kostas.neu.edu/), as well as the Kostas Research Institute for Homeland Security, with 70,000 square feet at our Burlington campus.
