Requisition Number: FTFR000119
Division/College: College of Arts, Media and Design
FT/PT: Full Time
Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Sustainable Building Design, Systems, and Technology
Northeastern University has initiated a major initiative to hire faculty for all relevant areas of Sustainability. The School of Architecture and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seek cross-college faculty candidates for tenured or tenure-track appointments at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. Northeastern’s cross-college hiring efforts seek to foster education and research across disciplinary boundaries. The successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a proven ability to sustain a research program with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and translational research, teach both undergraduate and graduate classes, and be an active, recognized leader in the discipline. We invite applications from individuals who can contribute to one or more areas within Sustainable Building Design, Systems, and Technology.
Sustainable Building Design, Systems, and Technology: In our new century of diminishing resources and expanding populations, buildings are a critical factor in sustainability because they consume a large proportion of the world’s material, economic and energy resources. This creates a demand to produce high performance buildings that will respond to site and climatic contexts, that are durable, adaptable, and affordable, and that integrate strategies for low embodied energy, low energy consumption, and high energy harvesting capabilities. These complex demands will increasingly require collaborative research and practices among the full range of building related disciplines. Northeastern aims to become a leader in combining the expertise in architectural and engineering design, systems and technology to produce sustainable solutions for the built environment. This position will focus on bridging the gap between high design and high performance building systems; architectural expression and structural integrity; resource and energy optimization; the construction and operations of buildings; and integrated design, integrated project delivery and team management.
A Doctorate degree or equivalent terminal degree in architecture, civil and/or environmental engineering, or closely related fields, and an outstanding record of scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with desired level of appointment.
